# How attribution works

> One partner code, bound once at signup. What a partner code is, where it goes, and what it does not do.

Every partner receives one partner code.

## Where the code goes

Append `?bp_ref=<your-code>` to any magicmarkets.com URL:

```
https://magicmarkets.com/?bp_ref=yourcode
https://magicmarkets.com/sports/all-sports?bp_ref=yourcode
```

## Attribution happens at signup

A user must sign up through a link that carries your code. Attribution cannot be added later.

After signup, the user's eligible taker volume counts toward your dividend.

## What it does not do

* **It does not move an existing user.** A user already attributed to another partner or referrer stays there.
* **It does not follow the user's referrals.** You accrue on the users you directly brought, not on the people they bring.
* **It does not affect the user.** They pay nothing extra. Their prices, limits and settlement are the same as they would be without your code.

## How you can tell it worked

During onboarding we run a test signup through your code with you and confirm it lands before you send traffic. From then on, the dividend is credited to your partner account after each month end. See [Dividend](/partners/dividend).

## Rules

Attribution is determined by MagicMarkets' tracking systems and that determination is final. Fake or duplicate accounts, inducements to the people you refer, spam, and paid media implying MagicMarkets endorsement all forfeit accrued dividends and end the partnership. The [Referral Terms](https://magicmarkets.com/referral-program) set out the conduct rules that apply to every referral link.
