# What is MagicMarkets?

> A peer-to-peer sports exchange where you trade outcomes against other traders or aggregated liquidity, at zero commission, priced in USDT.

MagicMarkets is a prediction market for sports and real-world outcomes. Every price comes from another trader taking the other side, or from liquidity aggregated across more than 25 sportsbooks, sports exchanges and prediction markets. Prices are in USDT. There is no commission at the point of trade.

## How it differs from a sportsbook

A sportsbook sets a price, takes the other side of your bet, and profits when you lose. Its incentive is to limit anyone who wins.

An exchange matches you against someone who wants the opposite side. Winning accounts are not limited or restricted for winning.

| | Sportsbook | MagicMarkets |
| - | - | - |
| Your counterparty | The house | Another trader, or aggregated liquidity |
| Commission | Built into the margin | None at the point of trade |
| Can you sell an outcome? | No | Yes |
| Treatment of winners | Limited or closed | Unrestricted |
| Currency | Fiat or crypto | USDT |

## Where the prices come from

MagicMarkets aggregates liquidity from more than 25 venues and presents it alongside orders from other MagicMarkets traders as one order book.

The practical effect is depth. Liquidity is available before the match and in-play, with different providers filling the gaps. A single-venue book cannot do that. See [How the exchange works](/platform/how-the-exchange-works).

## What you can do

* **Buy** an outcome. You win if it happens.
* **Sell** an outcome. You take the other side and win if it does not happen.
* **Combine** 2 to 10 legs into one position, called a combo. Every leg must win.

Exchanges and the API call buying and selling backing and laying. The trade is the same.

On top of that: limit orders, order book depth, trade-out and cashout where available on open positions, and real-time profit and loss. You trade with the same account and the same book in the web app at magicmarkets.com and through the [API](/developers/overview). The iOS app is a companion for prices, alerts and research. See [Apps and tools](/platform/apps-and-tools).

## What it is not

* Not a sportsbook. You never trade against the house.
* Not a market maker. MagicMarkets aggregates prices rather than setting them against you.
* Not fee-bearing at the point of trade.

## Who it is for

The product is built for people who form a view on a sports event and want to act on it at a fair price. That covers the fan with a strong opinion on one league and the trader working an edge across many. Both use the same book. MagicMarkets Pro is an optional layout that puts more markets and data on one screen. Turn it on under Layout in settings.
