# Responsible trading

> Cooling-off, self-exclusion, deposit limits, and where to get help.

Trading should stay something you control. These are the tools for keeping it that way, and how to reach them.

## Cooling-off

A short break. Your account stays open but you cannot place trades. Durations: 24 hours, 7 days, 1 month, or 3 months. The period cannot be ended early, and your account reactivates on its own when it elapses.

To set a cooling-off period, [contact support](/traders/support).

## Self-exclusion

A longer break, or a permanent one. All access to your account is suspended. Durations: 1 year, 3 years, 5 years, or lifetime. A temporary self-exclusion cannot be ended early, and reactivation after it elapses needs a request to support. A lifetime exclusion is irreversible.

To self-exclude, [contact support](/traders/support).

## Deposit limits

Some accounts carry a deposit limit over a period, shown on the deposit screen with the remaining amount and the reset time. If you want a limit of your own, ask support.

## Your funds during a break

Your balance stays yours during cooling-off and self-exclusion, and you can withdraw it. A break stops trading. You can still withdraw. During self-exclusion, contact support to arrange the withdrawal, because the account itself is suspended.

## Self-assessment

Gamblers Anonymous publishes a [20-question self-assessment](https://gamblersanonymous.org/20-questions/). If it points to a problem, use the tools above or reach out for help.

## Help organisations

The [Responsible Gambling](https://magicmarkets.com/responsible-gambling) page on magicmarkets.com lists support organisations and is the binding version of this policy.

## Referrals and breaks

Accounts that have self-excluded or taken a cooling-off period are excluded from the referral programme for that period.
