# Order statuses

> What each order status means, and why filled is not settled.

## In the interface

| Status | Meaning |
| - | - |
| Filling | Live on the book and working. None or part of it has matched so far |
| Filled | Fully matched. You hold the position |
| Partial | Finished with part of it matched. You hold a position for the matched part |
| Completed | The event has settled and the result is in your balance |
| Not filled | Finished with no match, for example a limit order that reached its expiration, or an event that started or finished before the order matched. No funds were committed |
| Cancelled | The order was cancelled before it matched |
| Partial void | Part of the matched position was voided under the settlement rules. Those funds were returned |
| Void | The market was voided after matching. Committed funds returned |

## Filled is not settled

**Filled** means your order found a counterparty and you now hold a position. **Settled** means the event finished, the outcome was verified, and money moved.

Between the two you hold an open position with unrealised profit and loss. The figure moves with the market. It becomes real when the market settles, or when you close the position yourself.

## Void markets

A void returns committed funds. Nobody wins and nobody loses. It happens when an event is abandoned, or when the conditions a market depends on do not occur. What counts as a void is defined per sport in the [settlement rules](https://magicmarkets.com/settlement-rules), not decided case by case.

## On the API

The API reports the same orders with its own status names and fields. See [Concepts](/developers/concepts).
